An increase in graphic novel sales wasn't enough to keep over-all comic dollars up in May, with a 7% growth rate in graphic novel dollars outweighed by a 4% decline in periodical dollars to produce a 3% decrease in dollar sales for comic periodicals and graphic novels combined vs. the same month in 2004.

May completed a five month string of growing graphic novel sales in comic stores.  Comic periodicals have been flat to down during the same period.
