Variety is reporting that Superman Returns director Bryan Singer has hired documentary director Kevin Burns to make a film celebrating the history of the Man of Steel from his creation by Siegel and Schuster in the 1930s to his appearance in Superman Returns in the summer of 2006.  Singer is attempting to get a limited theatrical release for the documentary, Look Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman, as well as a TV showing before the unveiling of Superman Returns on June 30th.  Burns has already interviewed more than 40 actors and creators from the various Superman movies and TV shows and expects to have the documentary finished by the end of April.

Kevin Burns has made a number of Hollywood themed documentaries including Cleopatra: The Film That Changed Hollywood and Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy.  Burns' Superman documentary will include some scenes from Singer's new Superman film and should prove to be an excellent promotional vehicle for the property.  The documentary may also be released on DVD on its own and most likely included in a deluxe DVD version of Singer's Superman Returns.
