IDW is planning to release two 5-issue 30 Days of Night mini-series starting in early 2007. Horror maven Steve Niles created the blood-soaked, high concept saga of vampires operating 24/7 in the sunless artic winters of Barrow, Alaska, and Niles will be writing both of the new mini-series. The first series will be launched in January and will chronicle the events that took place between the horrific goings-on in 30 Days of Night and its sequel Dark Days, while the second series will debut in February and will be set in the 30 Days universe, but it will be a complete spin-off, not tied to the regular continuity.
30 Days of Night was optioned by Hollywood even before the first issue appeared back in 2002, and the movie is currently in production and slated for an October 2007 release (see '30 Days of Night Movie Set').
IDW plans to have both of the new 5-issue mini-series collected in trade paperback editions in plenty of time for retailers to use along with the original 30 Days of Night trade and its sequel, Dark Days in order to take full advantage of the film's release.
