Marvel has announced that Civil War #2, the issue in which Spider-Man revealed his identity in Times Square, has sold out at the wholesale level and Marvel is taking it back to press for a second printing, which will be distinguished by a new cover by Steve McNiven, who provided the interior art for the groundbreaking title. According to Marvel's V.P. of Sales David Gabriel, the plethora of publicity produced by Peter Parker's pronouncement just adds another layer of excitement to an already white-hot crossover event--sales of Civil War #1 are nearing the '300,000 mark' and 'retailers are claiming that it has sold the most copies of any book in many, many years.'
Marvel has also announced that veteran artist (and writer) Howard Chaykin (American Flagg) will be the artist on the new Blade series, which goes on sale in September. Marc Guggenheim is writing the new Blade comic, which will have covers by Marko Djurdjevic. A Blade TV series, produced by David Goyer and written by Geoff Johns, debuts on the Spike TV network on June 28th, and should provide a major boost for this horror/superhero property.
