Diamond Select Toys has announced the acquisition of the license to create action figures based on the new Battlestar Galactica series on the Sci Fi Channel.  The new Battlestar Galactica series, which has been refashioned from the classic BSG series by Producer Ronald B. Moore to produce the most politically relevant work of television science fiction in the new century, has been a huge hit and has helped drive the Sci Fi Channel's ratings (see 'Sci Fi Channel Ratings Soar').

DST had already acquired the license to produce Minimates and resin figures based on the new BSG series (see 'Diamond Select Does Battlestar Galactica') in May of last year.  Majestic Studios is producing a series of 12' BSG figures, so DST will presumably concentrate on standard size action figures.  Sculpting of the new BSG action figures is already underway and DST plans to release its first series of Galactica figures, which will include a number of key figures from the new series including the seductive Six, this summer.

DST's new action figures will join an increasing array of BSG merchandise including comic books from Dynamite, which considers its Galactica comics as the 'anchor' of its line of comics, a new RPG from Margaret Weis Productions, which is due out in a few months (see 'Core BSG RPG Due Out This Spring'), as well as a BSG Collectible Card Game from WizKids.
