A spokesperson for Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that Magic:  The Gathering:  Zendikar, the fall 2009 release from the category-defining CCG, was the biggest release ever in the game’s seventeen year existence.  Sales were driven by the inclusion of vintage cards (see “M: TG:  Zendikar Has Vintage Cards”) on top of already strong momentum for the brand. 

Attendees at pre-release and release events for Zendikar were up 25% over the fall 2008 release.   

Despite the large quantities produced, the set was quickly sold out, with prices at retail higher than other recent sets.
