The long-anticipated third installment in Fantasy Flight Games’ Warhammer 40,000 role-playing game line has been announced as an August 2010 release.  Deathwatch allows players to assume the role of Imperial Space Marines—genetically modified super-soldier monks from the far future.

 

Deathwatch will be completely compatible with the two earlier titles in the series, Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader.  But it is a complete game in its own right and does not require any of the earlier material.

 

This game focuses on the life-and-death struggles between Space Marines and the alien forces seeking to destroy the Imperium.  The characters are taken from various Space Marine Chapters and thrown together in the newly formed “Deathwatch” where they must cooperate to succeed at dangerous missions.  These are “special-forces” style operations that challenge the players to operate without support.

 

Deathwatch will have a suggested retail price of $59.95.
