Monthly videogame sales aren’t the kind of thing we usually report here at ICv2, but these numbers got our attention.  NPD reports that videogame sales were down 26% vs. the previous year in April.  Hardware sales dropped 37% vs. April 2009, and game software sales dropped 22%.  Year to date, sales are down 11%, after an 8% decline last year.

We note that sales of hobby games, especially board games and collectible games, are on an upward swing (see “Hobby Game Sales Up 5-10%”).
