At GenCon Fantasy Flight Games announced the upcoming release of Sid Meier’s Civilization, a new board game designed by Kevin Wilson and inspired by the legendary PC games created by Sid Meier. In Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game (MSRP $59.95) 2-4 players take on the roles of historic leaders in charge of famous civilizations. They build cities and great buildings, fight battles, research powerful technologies, and attract great thinkers to their civilization.
There are four paths to victory, and each presents its own opportunities and pitfalls. Players begin with a single city, one army figure, and one scout—and from these modest beginnings the goal is to create a magnificent empire. The strategy and technical decisions on the military path will appeal to those who enjoy strategy games and war games, while the ability to win through culture and technical advancement provides a path to victory for those who just wish to concentrate on their own empire.
The deluxe Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game includes 1 market board, 4 reference sheets, 6 civilization sheets, 20 map tiles, 33 plastic figures, nearly 300 cards, 55 economy cards, hundreds of markers and tokens, six trade dials, six economy dials, and a rulebook.
This Fantasy Flight game is not to be confused with the 2002 iteration of Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game, which was designed by Glenn Drover, who was a sales director a Microprose during the development of the PC games, and published here by Eagle Games.
