In Q3 Z-Man Games will release Atlantis Rising, a new board game designed by Galen Ciscell with art by Karim Chakroun. Atlantis Rising is a cooperative-play, worker placement strategy game with an ancient civilization fantasy setting. Atlantis Rising, which is designed for from 2-6 players, ages 10 and up, is one of the few cooperative worker placement board games, and takes about 60 minutes to play.
Players in Atlantis Rising portray leading citizens of Atlantis on the eve of its destruction. They have to work together to construct a Cosmic Gate capable of transporting the remainder of the island to safety before the entire Atlantean civilization is wiped out forever. During every turn the players have to decide where to send their followers—the closer to the sea, the greater the reward, but also the greater the danger. Then players have to draw “misfortune cards” from the “misfortune deck,” which can eliminate portions of the island where the followers have been sent. The threat of attack by the Athenians who are planning to plunder the island before it sinks beneath the waves, escalates as the game moves along.
Components include 40 Atlanteans, 14 Gold, 10 Crystals, 10 Ore, 20 Atlantium, 24 Mystic Energy, 12 Courage Tokens, 6 Mystic Barrier Tokens, 40 Knowledge Cards, 58 Misfortune Cards, 6 Councilor Sheets, 21 Component Tiles, 37 Island Tiles, 1 Atalantean Navy Board, 1 Athenian Galley, 6 Dice, 1 Attack Die, 1 Starting Player Marker, and 1 Rulebook.
