Paizo has licensed the Pathfinder MMORPG rights to Goblinworks, a new company formed for the purpose. Goblinworks was founded by Paizo Publishing CEO and co-owner Lisa Stevens, former CCP Chief Marketing Officer Ryan Dancey, and MMO developer Mark Kalmes (Microsoft, Cryptic Studios, CCP). Dancey, who also spent time at Wizards of the Coast, where he launched Dungeons & Dragons 3E, will serve as CEO of the new company. CCP, where both Dancey and Kalmes spent time, is the producer of Eve Online, and the owner of White Wolf Publishing (see “CCP Cuts White Wolf Staff”). Stevens spent time at White Wolf and at WotC (where she worked for Dancey on D&D 3E) prior to co-founding Paizo. “I’d been hoping for a chance to work with Lisa and the Paizo team on a Pathfinder project for years,” Dancey said.
In Pathfinder Online, players will take the roles of any of Pathfinder’s character classes, or go beyond standard options to create other characters. The company is promising to solicit much player input during the development of the game, much as Paizo did during the development of the tabletop Pathfinder RPG.
