The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers grossed $61.5 million over the three day weekend, climbing to a total of $101.5 million after its strong opening Wednesday (see 'Two Towers Wows...'). That five day total is ahead of last year's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by over 33%. The screen count was up about 8% over last year's opening, so the per screen average was up substantially. The Two Towers also pulled in $85 million in the 26 other countries in which it opened since Wednesday. New Line is predicting that The Two Towers will be only the second $1 billion movie in worldwide gross receipts in history, after Titanic.
