Sabertooth Games, a new company founded by game industry veteran Bob Watts, has secured the license to create a collectible card game based on Games Workshop's popular Warhammer 40,000 miniature-based wargame.  While the number of new CCG releases remains high, the properties with a built-in audience among gamers are few and far between.  Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000, with its strong visuals and exciting game play is exactly the sort of property that has both the visual and narrative potential to become a popular CCG.

Bob Watts, the founder of Sabertooth games, has over 25 years experience in the gaming industry where he has run such companies as Ral Partha, Target/Heartbreaker, and the U.S. arm of Games Workshop.  Most recently Watts was a VP at Wizards of the Coast, where fellow Sabertoother, Luke Peterschmidt was a brand manager.  The recent turmoil at WotC, which had been cherry-picking both brands and brains from other segments of the gaming industry for years, has unleashed some of the excess talent that they had collected.  Now it will be up to Sabretooth to see if they can create a successful CCG that can compete in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
