Ares Games has announced a September release for its new edition of Inkognito, a classic deduction board game set against the background of the Venetian carnival.  Designed by Alex Randolph and Leo Colovini in 1988 for Milton Bradley, Inkognito was a worldwide hit in its first incarnation (see "Ares Acquires Rights to 'Inkognito' Board Game").

Working with Leo Colovini Ares Games tweaked the gameplay in subtle ways, such as eliminating the possibility of lost turns, which sometimes happened in the original version, and creating a five-player version of the game to go along with the three and four-player versions.  But the essence of this romantic game of intrigue in which players are secret agents who have to collect clues and use their deductive powers to recognize friends and confound enemies remains unchanged.

The new edition of Inkognito, which is due in September, features the original artwork by Studio Tapiro, along with a new logo designed by Peter Gifford.  All the game components were revised to make them consistent with each other, and with the game board, which is a beautiful map of Venice.  The "passports" that players use to hide their secrets were reorganized, and the small cards used to pass clues were restyled, but the original game pieces including the masked figures of the agents and the "Phantom of Prophecy" randomizer remain unchanged from the original.
