Fantasy Flight Games will release Shadow of Nerekhall, a new expansion for the Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2E board game, in Q1 2014.
This is the first time for an urban setting for Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2E, and the locale of Nerekhall is a town with an evil reputation. Instead of fighting in the wilderness, caves and wastelands, players must battle unnatural events happening in and under the town to determine if they are the work of outside forces, or if the city itself is rotting from the inside. There are 19 new quests (playable individually or together as a campaign), with new items, new heroes, and a new class for each hero archetype.
The Shadow of Nerekhall box includes 46 double-sided map tiles, 16 plastic figures, more than 100 new cards and 4 hero sheets, 33 tokens, a rulebook and campaign guide, and more. MSRP is set at $59.95. As an expansion, Nerekhall requires the base Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2E board game in order to play.
Released in early 2012, Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2E continues to hold a place as a top board game in the hobby market, including in ICv2’s latest summer survey (see "Top 10 Board Games--Summer 2013"). Fantasy Flight Games also recently announced the Q1 release of Agents of the Labyrinth, four new "Lieutenant Packs" for the game (see "'Agents of the Labyrinth'").
