Plaid Hat Games has announced plans to release a new series of board games under the Crossroads brand.  The Crossroads line will focus on a group of survivors’ ability to work together and stay alive in crisis situations while facing challenged from both the outside and inside.  The first title in the line will be the zombie survival game Dead of Winter.

Dead of Winter is a psychologically intense, meta-cooperative survival game designed by Isaac Vega (City of Remnants, Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia) and Jon Gilmour. Players take the role of faction leaders (controlling dozens of different characters within their group) of a small, weakened colony trying to survive the winter while surrounded by “diseased, flesh-craving monsters” in an apocalyptic world.

Players are working together toward one common victory condition--but for individual players to achieve victory, they have to complete a personal "secret objective."  This objective could be a fairly harmless psychological tick that doesn’t affect most of the colony, or some dangerous obsession that could put the group objective at risk.  It could be a desire to sabotage that group object, or a mad desire for vengeance against the whole colony.  All while balancing the group objectives of finding food, staving off attacks from outside and resolving crisis that come at any turn.  This means the game can end with all players winning, some winning and some losing, or everyone losing.

The box contains 10 Dual-Sided Main Objective cards, 25 Secret Objective cards, 10 Betrayal Secret Objective cards, 10 Exiled Survivor Secret Objective cards, 30 Survivor cards, 5 Player Reference Sheets, 1 First Player Token, 30 Starting Item cards, Search Deck cards (20 each for Police Station ,Grocery Store, School ,Gas Station, Library, and Hospital), 1 Exposure Die, 25 Crisis cards, 80 Crossroad cards, 20 Helpless Survivor Tokens, 30 Once Per Round Tokens, 20 Food Tokens, 20 Noise Tokens, 20 Barricade Tokens, 30 Wound Markers, 60 Standees, 50 Standee Stands, 6 Location cards, 30 Action Dice, 1 Colony Board and a rulebook.

The game is for 3 – 5 players, ages 13 and up, plays in 60 - 90 minutes and carries an MSRP of $59.95.  Release is planned for sometime in Q1 of 2014.
