Video game powerhouse Atari announced at the Electric Entertainment Expo (E3) that the company had signed an agreement with Funimation Productions to create video games for 'certain next-generation consoles' based on Funimation's popular anime series Yu-Yu Hakusho. Atari and Funimation have already worked together on games based on the Dragon Ball Z property, which, according to Funimation's Gen Fukunaga, 'captured the essence of Dragon Ball Z.' Funimation is clearly hoping that Yu-Yu Hakusho, which has sold over 40 million manga collections in Japan, can develop into a strong property in the wake of DBZ. The fact Atari is committing considerable resources in developing games based on the property demonstrates that Yu-Yu Hakusho, which debuted on the Cartoon Network's Toonami block in April of this year, is a property to watch, especially since a Yu-Yu toy line and a collectible card game have already been announced (see 'Yu Yu Hakusho Figures, CCG Deals Coming').
