Fantasy Flight Games has announced the third quarter 2014 release of Warhammer 40,000: Conquest, a two-player Living Card Game of interplanetary warfare in the gritty futuristic setting of Warhammer 40,000. Players are involved in a life-and-death struggle for control of the Traxis sector. Players must secure control of the sector’s key planets and balance concerns of present conflicts against with the need to reserve forces and resources for future conflicts.
Each round of the game begins as the two players deploy units to the planets arrayed between them. Securing control of planets is crucial to winning the game, but players must decide whether to concentrate their forces to be sure of capturing one planet or to spread military resources out more evenly, leaving them more vulnerable to attack. Of course not all planets are equal and the planets’ game cards indicate the particular planet’s strategic value, where it be technological, military, or economic--with some planets having all three elements, while others just have one or two strategic attributes.
The game is complicated by the existence of seven different factions, which can be called on as allies to help a player’s Warlord gain control of a planet. Players have to choose a faction and must select an in-faction Warlord to lead his armies. Each faction has certain other factions that are potential allies, so choosing a faction is a key element in winning the game. Look for more details about Warhammer 40,000: Conquest to be released in the near future.
