Peter Adkison, the owner/CEO of GenCon LLC (see 'GenCon Bigger in Indy for our show overview'), announced that preliminary numbers for the recently completed GenCon Indy indicate that the show's move to Indianapolis was a success, with attendance up 5-10% over last year's show in Milwaukee to an estimated 28,000 badges sold.
In an open letter addressing both the positives and the negatives of the first Indianapolis GenCon, Adkison noted the downtown Indianapolis environment for the show, the events, exhibitor sales, and press coverages as other positives. Among the negatives cited by Adkison were severe problems with the convention's computer systems, which led to long lines for registration and considerable frustration for some convention-goers. In addition vendors ran out of food and ATM machines ran out of cash -- problems that should be fixable next year as suppliers will have a better handle on the needs of the massive influx of gamers.
