Fast Forward Entertainment of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin has gone through a reorganization, which includes the severance of its distribution ties with Sovereign Press and Noble Miniatures as well as a six-person reduction in staff. Fast Forward's VP of Sales & Marketing John Danovich told ICv2 that the company, '...put a lot of resources into products that have not been printed yet. A company cannot continue to spend money without return on its investment of time and effort. We could not continue under those conditions and had to make some difficult decisions. We had to let some very talented people go from our production staff.' Danovitch did mention that Fast Forward is continuing to work with most of its laid-off employees on a freelance basis.
In addition to creating its own (primarily d20) products, Fast Forward also handled distribution and fulfillment for a number of other game publishers. The Pinnacle Entertainment Group was the first of Fast Forward's clients to announce that it would be handling distribution on its own (see 'Pinnacle Ankles Fast Forward'). Now Sovereign Press and Noble Miniatures have also left the Fast Forward distribution umbrella behind; but Fast Forward did successfully renegotiate its agreement with FanPro, so Fast Forward will continue to market and distribute FanPro products as well as its own.
Fast Forward currently plans to release 1-2 major game products a month under its own imprint in 2004.
In yet another initiative during its expansion, Fast Forward also acquired two d20 magazines Campaign and Games Unplugged. Fast Forward has been attempting to sell Games Unplugged and an announcement of the sale should be forthcoming in the near future.
Asked why content on its Website hadn't been updated for a month or more, Danovich told us it was due to 'technical glitches,' including a server move, and that discussion boards were working now and that wholesale content changes were coming soon.
