The Cartoon Network is planning to show the Bionicles: Mask of Light CGI film as part of the network's revamped Toonami block on Saturday night April 17 at 7:30 pm (ET, PT). The direct-to-video Bionicles film was based on the best-selling series of toys from Lego (see 'Bionicles: Mask of Light Gets Launch Event'). The toy line has an elaborate backstory derived in part from the rich mythological tradition of the peoples of the South Pacific. The success of the first Bionicles CGI release has led to the development of a Bionicles theatrical feature film (see 'Writer Chosen for Bionicle Feature Film') as well as a second direct-to-video release. The Cartoon Network's Toonami block, which used to have a late afternoon time period, has shifted to Saturday nights with a greater programming emphasis on anime and action/adventure series (see 'Toonami Gets Saturday Night Fever').
