According to the GameSpot Website, Hiroshi Yamauchi, the ex-president of Nintendo who inherited his family's playing card business and turned it into a video gaming powerhouse, wants Nintendo to venture into the production of anime.  Yamauchi told the Kyodo News, 'I'm suggesting that Nintendo make movies, and have them run in conjunction with game releases.'

Other videogame software (Capcom, Square Enix) and hardware (Sony) companies have been much more active in the creating anime than Nintendo, which in the past has licensed its characters to other companies for anime series.  The move into anime production may have been one of the non-video game initiatives that Nintendo of America's National Sales Manager refered to in an interview with ICv2 earlier this year (see 'Nintendo Plans TV Support for Pokemon TCG').
