McFarlane Toys has unveiled a new series of original fantasy figures, McFarlane's Dragons: Quest for a Lost King, which are due out in January 2005.  The first series of figures, which includes six different dragons, is based on a company-created original fantasy mythos, which posits a 'Golden Age of Dragons,' which predated the age of Man.  These dragons were intelligent beings who developed speech and writing and ruled the Earth before a great cataclysm destroyed the dragon nation and sent the few remaining dragons into hiding.

The first series of McFarlane's Dragons includes: a Komodo Clan Dragon, a Sorcerers Clan Dragon, an Eternal Clan Dragon, a Fire Clan Dragon, a Water Clan Dragon and a deluxe box set featuring a Berserker Clan Dragon vs. Human Attackers.  A second series, tentatively entitled Dragon Revenge, is set for release in March of 2005.  McFarlane Toys has not released the SRP or exact dimensions of the figures, though they are believed to be in the six-inch range.

McFarlane Toys does however, have some pictures of the figures up on its Website, and they are truly impressive and worthy exemplars of the company's tradition of pushing the limits in detail and design.  While some retailers may be wary of 'generic' dragon merchandise, there should be no doubt about the incredible allure of the mythical beasts -- and game retailers, in particular, should consider bringing in some of the spectacular, highly detailed representations of these fascinating mythical beasts.
