Eagle Games, Inc. has announced that it will publish the boardgame version of the highly anticipated Firaxis Games' Sid Meier's Pirates! PC Game. The PC Game is scheduled for a November release and Eagle Games should have the boardgame version out in January 2005. Atari will produce the new version of the Pirates! PC Game, which is based on the original Pirates! game, which was originally published in 1987 and became one of the most influential designs in the early days of PC gaming.
Eagle's Pirates! boardgame will remain true to the theme of the PC game, allowing players to become the most famous (or infamous) pirate captains of the 17th Century Caribbean by building a powerful crew, raiding the shipping lanes, and plundering towns. The game design of Eagle's Pirates! boardgame will feature sophisticated game mechanics similar to those found in today's popular 'Euro games.' The gameboard and box will feature art by Paul Niemeyer and Jeff Menges, and the game will include elaborate plastic miniatures of pirates, treasure, and ships. Designed for 2-6 players, Sid Meier's Pirates! The Boardgame will play in approximately 90 minutes.
