The Topps Company has announced that #1 of the 50 Babe Ruth SportsClix figures it is manufacturing for its SportsClix 2005 booster packs is being auctioned on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  The Ruth figure is sculpted in his 1917 Red Sox uniform.  The figure was planned and commissioned some six months ago but completed on October 20th, the night of the Red Sox game seven win over the New York Yankees.  The figure is accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity; the signing was witnessed by a representative from Beckett Baseball Collector.

The cosmic significance of the figure is apparently resonating with fans and collectors.  Some 24 hours into the auction, it's already at $330.

The other 49 Ruth figures will be randomly included in SportsClix 2005 booster packs.  The new SportsClix series will be released in late March, 2005 in starters and boosters.  Starters will include four preselected figures, tokens rules, dice, a playmat, and collector's list for an MSRP of $9.99.  Boosters will include two randomly assorted figures, rare Hall of Fame players such as Lou Gehrig and Ruth among them, at $4.99.

Faster gameplay is promised for the 2005 edition.
