TriKing Games (in conjunction with The History Channel) is releasing Anachronism, a trading card game in which players pit warriors from different time periods and different cultures against each other in fascinating card-driven conflicts. The target demographic is a 12-19 year-old male.
The cultures featured in the first release include The Ancient Greeks, The Norse, the feudal Japanese, and the Romans.
The first release includes 17 different skus including the Achilles vs. Spartacus Starter Pack (srp $12.99) and 16 different Warrior Packs (srp $6.99) featuring famous warriors from the four cultures covered in the initial release. The Starter Pack includes 1 Achilles Warrior Card, 1 Spartacus Warrior Card, 8 support cards, dice, rules and a play-mat. Each Warrior Pack includes 1 Warrior Card and 4 Support Cards.
Unlike most trading card games there is no randomness in Anachronism and no ultra rare cards. The Warrior Packs come in pegged blister packs and customers can clearly see which warrior they are buying. The four Support Cards accompanying every Warrior serve several functions -- they can increase the Warrior's abilities, provide protection, and create overwhelming combinations to use against an opponent.
The first expansion will be shipped in late May or early June, with new releases following approximately every ten weeks after that.
Triking has created The Anachronism War College -- a worldwide organized play program for the new TCG. Retailers can sign up online at the TriKing Games Website and earn access to special promotional cards available only to players who participate in organized play events. TriKing is launching Anachronism in the hobby and then moving into various educational channels -- no retail chains are involved at this time.
