In 2004 SOTA Toys brought out its first highly successful line of heavily articulated, state-of-the-art Street Fighter Action Figures. In early 2007 SOTA will release three Street Fighter Beta Figures (MSRP $17.99), which will all have the same sort of advanced articulation, but which will harken back to the look of the characters in the popular Street Fighter anime.
Just this July, Manga Entertainment released the uncut Street Fighter II Movie from 1995, and quickly re-established the popularity of the property as it quickly became one of the best-selling anime releases of the year.
The three Street Fighter Beta figures include Ryu, Ken and Akuma. The Ryu figure features 33 points of articulation, interchangeable hands, and his patented 'Hurricane Kick' accessory. Ryu was one of the original characters in the Capcom video game and he is joined in this series by his friend (and sometime rival) Ken. The Ken figure also has 33 points of articulation and interchangeable hands. Ken comes with his famous 'Dragon Punch' accessory.
Good guys have to have an opponent and in this case it's Akuma, Ryu's uncle (and the murderer of Ryu's father). The Akuma figure also comes with 33 points of articulation and interchangeable hands. Given Akuma's devotion to the dark arts it's no surprise that his accessory is a Fireball.
