It was a tough year for hobby board and card games in 2023, with Covid-era trends continuing to revert and sales concentrating in core hobby evergreens, according to our reporting. The decline of hobby game purchases by Target moms continued in 2023, and in hobby channel sales also declined as sales reverted to pre-Covid trends.
We estimate that sales of hobby board games declined about 10% to $390 million in 2023, down from $435 million in 2022 and a high of $440 million in 2021 (see graph below for board game trends).
