Dog Man and Cat Kid, where have you been for the past five months? Hanging out on the juvenile fiction chart, it turns out. The BISAC code, the code that publishers and retailers use to categorize books, was changed to a graphic novel code in April, and voila! We have a new number one title.
That doesn’t really change the makeup of the chart much. It just means that there are four, rather than three, of Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man books in the top tier. Scholastic Graphix rules the list, with 12 titles, including six Raina Telgemeier books, Gale Galligan’s Baby-Sitters Club: Dawn and the Impossible Three, and the first volume of the graphic adaptation of Tui Sutherland’s Dragonet Prophecy novels.
Terri Libenson, the creator of the syndicated comic strip The Pajama Diaries, has two titles on the chart, as her new book, Positively Izzy, joins Invisible Emmie on the top 20.
Vera Brosgol’s Be Prepared, released in April, makes the chart this month; this is the second graphic novel for Brosgol (see "First Second Reveals Spring 2018 Catalog"), who won an Eisner Award for her first book, Anya’s Ghost, in 2012.
