New episodes of Power Rangers will air on Nickelodeon this fall, and Nicktoons will also begin airing some of the 700 older episodes, according to Variety. The revival, which will also include live touring events and feature films, is being launched by Saban Brands, a new company formed by Haim Saban. Saban Brands has re-acquired Power Rangers from Disney.
Saban developed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, based on a Toei Japanese production, in the early 90s and had a great run on Fox Kids. Disney acquired the property with the channel (now ABC Family) in 2001, but apparently doesn’t see it as a great fit for its audience. At the time Disney purchased the brand, Power Rangers had already accounted for $5 billion in retail sales.
