In the far future, unemployed Nicole Oresme needs a job in a hurry which is how she finds herself as the unlikely assistant to eccentric scientist Seamus O'Murchadha, whose latest project could change all of human civilization. Soon they're off on a ground tour of the Solar System but one with danger at every turn as there are agents from powerful corporations who will stop at nothing to possess O'Murchadha's discovery.
We follow the hard drinking Nicole from Mercury to Venus where she has to deal with everything from the dangers of outer space to jail. But unlike most "space heroes" she also has to deal with sudden fame and on the fly has to learn how to deal with both the press and her fans. It's a series full of strong, relatable characters but Nicole especially never comes off as anything less than seeming altogether real.
Volume One of Quantum Vibe collects the first 400 strips in Scott Bieser's web serial and while each page reads well enough as individual installments, it's only when it's read in one sitting that you can fully appreciate the work's scope. What Bieser has created here is nothing short of a picaresque science fiction novel which is equal parts Charles Dickens and Robert A. Heinlein. In a genre overrun with the juvenile and adolescent here’s something that’s genuine adult entertainment.
--Steve Bennett: Writer and retail services consultant.
