The Peter Pan 2-Disc Platinum Edition that was released this week does full justice to a Disney masterwork.  With its character-rich and fluid animation this 1953 release totally shines in a brilliant new transfer and enhanced sound track.  As is typical with the two-disc reissues of Disney classics, the second disc includes a host of great extras including 'You Can Fly: The Making of Peter Pan' with film historian Leonard Maltin; 'In Walt's Words,' a subtle dramatization of a magazine article Disney wrote in 1953; 'The Peter Pan Story,' a featurette from 1952; plus a never-before-seen opening sequence, deleted songs, and games.

This 2-disc Peter Pan Platinum Edition (MSRP $29.99) is an example of Disney animation at its best with dynamic staging and loads of character-driven humor, and remains something to recommend to younger animation fans whose concept of Disney animation may be limited to repeat viewings of Chicken Little.  The only off-key notes in the entire piece are provided by the stereotypical 'stage' Indians, which reflect the dime novel fantasies of Victorian children and don't bear the slightest resemblance to any real Native Americans.
