Variety is reporting that, according to Warner Bros., Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will debut for the Memorial Day weekend on May 22nd, 2009. T4, which stars Christian Bale (Batman), will begin shooting on May 5th of this year in New Mexico. The McG-directed robot epic will debut in what has quickly become a very crowded month of May in 2009. Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens on May 1st, followed by J.J. Abrams new Star Trek film on May 8th, and Sony's Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons on May 15th.
Terminator Salvation will not just have heavyweight holdover competition--it will also have to share the privilege of opening over the Memorial Day weekend with Fox's Night at the Museum II: Escape from the Smithsonian, which stars Ben Stiller. Stiller's first Museum epic earned over $250 million at the domestic box office and the sequel promises to be the kind of broad effects-driven comedy that will attract lots of young male viewers that form the core of the potential T4 audience.
