Universal will produce a live action feature version of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, based on the 70s kid show by Sid and Marty Krofft, according to Variety. The film will be written by Simpsons writer-producer Dana Gould.
Universal has completed shooting its Land of the Lost adaptation, also based on a Krofft show (see “Universal Greenlights Land of the Lost”). Its release has been moved to June 2009 in order to avoid a conflict with Warners’ Harry Potter film, which was just moved to July (see “Harry Potter Film Moved to Summer”).
There are also other Krofft-based projects in the pipe. Sony is developing a live action H.R. Pufnstuff film, and a new Banana Splits TV show is also in the works (see “Banana Splits Return”).
