Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter and his wife Laura have donated $9 million to fund cancer research at NYU Langone and the Tehnion-Israel Institute of Technology, according to Variety. The research being funded is divided into two parts: $3 million to finance six cancer-focused research projects jointly run by researchers from the two institutions, and $6 million to fund a research facility at Technion to focus on cancer metabolomics.
These donations are actually on the small side for the Perlmutters, who donated $50 million to NYU Langone in January 2014.
Perlmutter formally became a billionaire with the sale of Marvel to Disney for cash and stock in 2009, a transaction in which he also became Disney’s largest stockholder (see “Disney Buys Marvel”).
