Papercutz Super Genius imprint will release a new collection of Neil Gaiman’s Mr. Hero: The Newmatic Man in February 2016.
Created by Gaiman, the collection is written by James Vance (Kings in Disguise, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight), with art by Ted Slampyak (Jazz Age, Little Orphan Annie). The series will be released as a two volume set. The first 232-page volume will include issues #1 – #9, an afterword by Jim Salicrup and a Compendium of Nearly-Lost Lore with sketches, blueprints and more. . The set will be available in both paperback ($14.99) and hardcover ($24.99). Hobby release is planned for February 3.
Originally release in the mid-1990s by Tekno Comix, Mr. Hero was a steam-powered automaton created by the evil Teknophage, who sent him to Earth as a sleeper agent. Mr. Hero is discovered in the 1800s by a farmer, who sells him to a magician who trains him to box as part of his act. After malfunctioning and accidently wounding a challenger, he is put in storage. A street magician finds him in the 1990s and reactivates him. Will he overcome his programming and become the hero the world needs?
