There has been news on several geek movie projects in the last few weeks, and we round them up here.

Fox’s Deadpool finally received its official “R” rating from the MPAA, as listed on BoxOfficeMojo. The film is also being denied for release in China due to its nudity, graphic language and violence, according to THR. While China’s censorship authorities will sometimes work with studios to create an acceptable cut for Chinese audiences, apparently it wasn’t possible to remove enough offending material from Deadpool without causing continuity problems.

Warner Bros. has cast Danish Actress Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Devil’s Advocate) as Queen Hippolyta in Wonder Woman, THR is reporting. The film is currently shooting in Italy and the U.K. (see “'Wonder Woman' Production Underway”).

Sony has announced a release date for Sony’s remake of Jumanji, according to THR. The board-game-gone-wild family picture from 1995 starred Robin Williams as a man trapped for decades in a board game.  The release date is set as December 25, 2016, Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds) will rework the original script.

Fox has acquired the rights to Kyle Stark’s Image Comics graphic novel Sexcastle, Deadline is reporting. The tale is an homage to 80s action movies, where the world’s former best assassin has retired and is now living in a small town. Of course, somehow, he’s pulled back into that world. The film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck and Blake Anderson (Workaholics), with Anderson attached to play Shane Sexcastle.

The big screen adaptation of Paul Pope’s Battling Boy has found a writer in Jason Mantzoukas (Childrens Hospital, The League, Ride Along), according to Deadline.  Paramount’s live-action/animated hybrid film project will be directed by Patrick Osborne (see “Paul Pope's 'Battling Boy' Gets a Director”).

Twentieth Century Fox’s Flash Gordon also has a new writer, Hitfix is reporting. Mark Protosevich is working on a script, with Matthew Vaughn attached to direct (see “'Flash Gordon' May Have A Director”).
