Jack Davis, an artist and cartoonist whose career with EC Comics began in 1950, has passed away at the age of 91. In addition to EC, Davis was best known as artist for Mad Magazine, a relationship that began in 1952 and continued, with interruptions, for decades. At EC, Davis contributed covers and stories to titles across the line, our favorite work of his career. He was one of the last surviving artists that worked for EC.
Davis also worked in animation design for Rankin-Bass; created movie posters, including It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World; and did illustrations for album covers, magazine covers and illustrations, and for his alma mater, the University of Georgia.
Davis was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame, and received a National Cartoonists Society Lifetime Achievement Award and a Reuben Award.
