WizKids is revising its Organized Play program for Mike Elliott and Eric M. Lang’s popular Dice Masters collectible dice and card game. The new Dice Masters Rotation format will go into effect on June 1.
Dice Masters Rotation introduces a limit on which cards and dice can be used in official events. From now on, all events will be identified as either “Golden Age” or “Modern Age”.
Golden Age events are identical to the current OP format. All Dice Masters titles can be used when constructing teams for events using this format. Only two cards are currently banned from use in Golden Age events: “Relentless” and “Swords of Revealing Light,” both basic action cards.
Modern Age events will only include recently released Dice Masters sets, which will be referred to as “Modern-Age-legal.” The Modern-Age-legal sets will rotate out of use as new sets are released. When the new format launches in June, only DC Comics Dice Masters: War of Light and other sets released after September 16, 2015 will be Modern-Age-legal. At this time, there is one banned card for Modern Age events: “Half-Elf Bard: Master Lords’ Alliance.”
WizKids’ stated goal for launching the new format is to help keep the game accessible to new players and for stores that are unable to stock older, rarer sets. Modern Age format will become the standard for all Qualifying, National Championships, and World Championships going forward.
The new format will be in place before the July release of this summer’s upcoming Spider-Man set (see “‘Marvel Dice Masters: Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Team Pack’”).
