Jason Isaacs, the star of Awake and alum of the Harry Potter franchise (Lucius Malfoy), will be filling the captain’s chair for CBS All Access’s Star Trek: Discovery, Deadline reports.
Isaacs will play Captain Lorca opposite series lead Sonequa Martin-Green (see “'Star Trek: Discovery' Lead Cast”), joining the ranks of William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula as actors who have portrayed a Star Trek captain. Notably, Discovery doesn’t focus on the captain, but on Martin-Green’s Lieutenant Commander Rainsford.
Isaacs joins previously cast James Frain (see “'Star Trek: Discovery' Starts Production Next Week”), Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp (see “’Star Trek: Discovery’ in Geek TV Round-Up”), and Michelle Yeoh (see “Michelle Yeoh Cast in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’”).
The series started production in January and was recently bumped from a May debut to a yet-to-be-determined date in late summer or early fall (see “'Star Trek: Discovery' Moved Back Again”).
