Longtime Production IG executive Maki Terashima-Furuta has been promoted to President of Production of Production IG USA, the company announced. Production IG USA projects during Terashima-Furuta’s 20 year tenure as Vice-President – Production include Mamoru Oshii’s Avalon, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, IGPX, Clone Wars, Batman: Gotham Knight, Cyborg 009 and Perfect Bones, and the recently released Ghost in the Shell movie.
Tarashima-Furuta and her body of work came in for strong praise from a variety of fans. "Maki has been the driving force of spreading manga in the USA," Production IG USA Chairman Avi Arad said. "Her commitment to this form of art is unyielding."
Legendary director Mamoru Oshii called her a world-renowned "'Wild Business Woman,' someone with incredible instinct and courage."
Production IG President and CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa said he had "always considered Maki as a proprietor, as opposed to an employee."
Terashima-Fuiruta described her goals as "...to strengthen the Production IG brand to all age groups worldwide, further reach out to consumers and industries that aren’t familiar with anime, and help replenish the economy of the anime industry in Japan in order for it to persevere."
