The world of the smash hit Gloomhaven will be the setting for a new stand-alone game from Cephalofair Games called Founders of Gloomhaven, tentatively set to release in Q1 2018.

Designed by Gloomhaven’s designer Isaac Childres, Founders of Gloomhaven is a game about building cities in that fantasy world.  Combining elements of hand management, action selection, worker placement, and blind bidding, players work together to build a city while trying to guide the development in a way that benefits their own fantasy race.

Each player has a set of resource tiles that they place on the game board.  By combining their tiles with those of their opponents, they produce the resources needed to add buildings to the city and earn victory points.  The game was designed for 1 to 4 players, and takes about 2 hours to play.

Cephalofair has had resounding success with the Gloomhaven line (see "'Gloomhaven' Returns"), breaking into the top 10 of game Kickstarters when it was reprinted earlier this year (see "Game Reprint Scores on Top 10 Tabletop Kickstarter Chart").  Some of that success has shined on Founders of Gloomhaven as well, and the company’s Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the new game has attracted $313,408 from 6,279 backers as of this writing (an average of $49.91 per backer), with 22 days remaining in the campaign.

Founders of Gloomhaven comes with 1 game board showing the landscape upon which a city can be built, 1 action and proposal board, 8  player boards, 65 cards, 139 tiles, 175 tokens, 12 worker meeples, and 40 money tokens.  The final MSRP has not yet been set, but is expected to fall in the $60.00 to $70.00 range, depending on which stretch goals are met during the Kickstarter campaign.

Founders of Gloomhaven is not an expansion to the earlier game, and no experience with or ownership of Gloomhaven is required.
