Steamforged Games Ltd. has unveiled Resident Evil 2: The Board Game, its new cooperative tabletop adaptation of the popular CAPCOM video game.

Steamforged announced the license for the survival horror game last month (see “Steamforged Gets 'Resident Evil'”), along with plans for a Kickstarter campaign. Resident Evil 2: The Board Game is a co-op game where players attempt to survive the zombie-infested metropolis of Raccoon City. The game combines resource management and an innovative "Tension Deck" mechanic to amp up the action as players attempt to complete an objective before they escape. Because it is a cooperative game, if even one character dies, the scenario is lost.

The core game includes 4 player character models (Leon Kennedy, Robert Kendo, Claire Renfield, and Ada Wong), 2 boss models, 1 licker model, 2 zombie dog models, 12 zombie models, 20+ double-sided gaming tiles, boss dials for tracking damage, weapon dials for tracking ammunition, 50+ tension cards, 15+ boss behavior cards, 40+ item cards, and 20+ game tokens.

The game is for 1 – 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 30 – 90 minutes. MSRP is estimated at around $100.00, and release is planned for late Q3 or Q4.  There is also The B-Files Expansion Set which comes with the basic pledge, as well as add-on packs including The Malformation of G and The Retro Pack, which are exclusive to the Kickstarter.

Steamforged is offering retailers an offsite pledging option, which allows verified retailers around the world to reserve games, along with stretch goals, in increments of 4, 8, 12, or 16 copies. They will also be eligible to order Optional Buys up to the number of core copies ordered. Retail Pledges will be delivered at the same time as backers (currently estimated as September 2018), roughly 4 weeks before general retail. Retails must agree to sell items from the pledge bundle with the core game, and not resell promotional items separately. A $100 deposit is required at time of pledge.

The Kickstarter has raised over $442,000 from nearly 4,500 backers as of this writing, and will continue through October 23.
