Famed director Quentin Tarantino has approached J.J. Abrams with an idea for a Star Trek movie, according to Deadline. The pair plans to assemble a writers room to develop a story based on Tarantino’s concept. If the movie is produced, Tarantino may direct with Abrams producing, according to the report.
Abrams has produced the three Star Trek films in the most recent series (starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto) and directed the first two, so producing a Star Trek film for another director would not be new ground for him. Directing a film based on an existing intellectual property would definitely be new ground for Tarantino, though, who’s made his name with original films from scripts he’s written or co-written (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Bastards, etc.).
But could you see a Mexican standoff with phasers instead of pistols?
