Warner Bros. Pictures has brought in a new executive to manage its troubled DC film slate, naming Walter Hamada, formerly Executive Vice President, Production at New Line Cinema, as the new President, DC-Based Film Production, the company announced.  Warners moved out Jon Berg to another production role in the first stage of this particular shake-up last month after Justice League was released to disappointing critical, fan, and box office results (see “Warner Bros. Shaking Up DC Films (Again)”).  Hamada will report to Warner Bros. Pictures Group President and CCO Toby Emmerich.

In his role at New Line, Hamada was an Executive Producer on It, which out-grossed the underperforming Justice League last year on a fraction of the budget, and on Annabelle:  Creation, the latest film in the Conjuring series, which Hamada has been involved with since the beginning.

Although the exact role of DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns, who ran the DC slate with Berg before this shake-up, has not yet been clearly defined, Hamada will “work closely” with Johns, according to the announcement.  Johns, who’s worked with Hamada on Shazam!, greeted Hamada on Twitter with an exclamation point-loaded post, writing, “Welcome aboard, Walter!! Thrilled to be working with you!  It’s been a blast on Shazam! – now it’s off to the rest of the DCU!”
