Marc Miller’s classic role playing game of space exploration and combat Traveller has been adapted into a new customizable card game. Traveler: The Card Game will release in Q3.

In the game, players are captains of their own space ships in the Third Imperium, competing to be the first to pay off their ship, while avoiding bankruptcy, pirates, and other conflicts of space travel. Cards come in fixed sets, which players use to assemble their own decks. As they travel the space lanes, players can find many options for profit and adventure, but must make sure the bills are paid. The game is for 2 – 4 players, but there are also several solo play scenarios.

Traveller: Two Player Starter Set will be the first release. It includes two 81-card Ship Decks (the Type S Scout and the Beowulf Free Trader), a supplemental deck, a counter sheet, and a rulebook. MSRP is $39.99. Various accessories, including Card Sleeves, Premium Token Packs, and Playmats will also be released.

This will be followed by additional Add-On Ship Decks which include 81 card ship decks and rules inserts. MSRP is $14.99.  Expansion Packs, which include new tools and options (60-card sets: 3 copies of 20 cards) are also planned to add more customization to the game. MSRP is $11.99. The company currently plans to release these additional decks at the rate of once a month.

The game was funded with a Kickstarter which raised $56,676 from 775 backers ($73.13 / backer average) in January 2017. Backers have already received their games, and are participating in an organized play community on the game’s website, called the Free Trader Network.
