Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Award-winner Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears DeathBintiAkata) will tackle immigration in a miniseries from Dark Horse’s Berger Books imprint. LaGuardia is illustrated by Tana Ford (SilkDuck!), who previously partnered with Okorafor on the sixth issue of digital series Black Panther: Long Live the King. The first issue is on sale October 31.

LaGuardia, a four-issue miniseries, will use a futuristic setting to tackle contemporary immigration issues. Future Nwafor Chukwuebuka, a pregnant Nigerian-American doctor, has returned to a New York City on an alternate Earth where aliens and humans coexist. Future has smuggled Letme Live, an illegal alien plant, through customs and into her grandmother’s diverse tenement of mostly African immigrants and shape-shifting aliens in the South Bronx. But the immigrants face interrogation, discrimination, and travel bans in this new land.

Okorafor’s Long Live the King was recently released in print as a trade. Okorafor will also be writing a series of one shots spotlighting the Dora Milaje starting June 27 (see “The Dora Milaje Break Out in 'Wakanda Forever'”).
