The CW has named Ruby Rose as Kate Kane /Batwoman for its upcoming Arrowverse annual crossover as well as lead in the pilot for a possible spinoff series (see “'Batwoman' in Development for The CW”).
Rose’s acting credits include Stella Carlin in Orange is the New Black, Ares in John Wick: Chapter 2, and Jaxx in the upcoming Jason Statham action flick The Meg (see “ Jason Statham Battles Prehistoric Shark in 'The Meg' Trailer”).
If it is picked up, the series would debut in 2019. Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Smallville) is writing and executive producing the project. Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter are also on board to executive produce. If the project stays true to the DC Comics, Batwoman would mark the first time that an openly gay character headlines a live-action superhero show.
