Hasbro will release a new edition of Monopoly: Game of Thrones, Hasbro and HBO announced. The new edition will include an Iron Throne card holder, which plays the TV theme song throughout gameplay. Other new features include customized tokens, and iconic properties and graphics "infused within the game board."
Players buy, sell, and trade locations in the Seven Kingdoms, building castles and holdfasts. Six game tokens are inspired by the sigils of the Great Houses. In addition to the card holder and tokens, other game contents include the gameboard, 28 Title Deed cards, 32 Chance cards, 32 holdfasts, 12 castles, 2 dice, 95 cardboard coins (42 gold dragons, 53 silver stags), and game guide.
The new edition will be available at "all major retailers" in the U.S. in January, according to the announcement, although we note that Gamestop is currently taking preorders for delivery December 24. No specific word on hobby distribution. MSRP is $29.99.
USAopoly launched a Monopoly: Game of Thrones Collector’s Edition, a more upscale version at $59.95 in 2015 (see "’Game of Thrones’ for 2015"); it remains available as of this writing.
