Asmodee will be bringing Pearl Games’ new board game Solenia to the North American market, releasing it in the first quarter of the new year.

The world of Solenia is split in half, with one part in permanent sunshine and the other in permanent shadow.  Now, goods that can be produced only in part of the world are delivered to the other, allowing both parts to survive.  Thus, wood and grain, which grows only in the sunlight, are exchanged for water and stone, which can be gathered only in the shadow.

In the game, players travel between the world’s floating cities in enormous airships, using cards from their hand to gather these essential goods or deliver them where they are needed.  Efficiency is rewarded with “gold stars,” and the player who can collect the most of them wins the game.

Solenia was designed by Sebastien Dujardin (Troyes, Deus) and features illustrations by Vincent Dutrait (Lewis & Clark, Broom Service).  The game includes 5 double-sided game board strips, 1 large airship figurine, 72 tiles, 60 resource tokens, gold star tokens, and 1 die for use in the solitaire version of the game.  It is intended for 1 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, and takes a little more than half an hour to play.  MSRP is $44.99.

Lookout Games, another design studio under the Asmodee umbrella, recently announced plans to produce a fan-created expansion for its popular Caverna game (see “‘Caverna:  The Cave Farmers’ Adds New Species”).
